Slocum announces she will retire at conclusion of House term

Rep. Linda Slocum (DFL-Richfield) said Thursday she will not seek re-election in November.

The six-term lawmaker is the 12th House member — and ninth DFLer — to announce they will retire at the conclusion of their term in January 2019. Slocum said in a statement she was stepping away from the Legislature to focus on her health.

“I am looking forward to a health-focused retirement,” she said in a written statement. “I am proud of the many things we accomplished together in Richfield and Bloomington.”

An educator, Slocum said she is proud of her work as a lawmaker fighting for Minnesota’s schools.

“I fought and will continue to fight for full education funding, special education equity and grants for recovery schools,” she said.
