House passes bill to clarify and extend court deadlines

By a vote of 132-0, the House passed a bill Thursday that would clarify legislation passed related to Gov. Tim Walz’s first COVID-19 emergency declaration in March 2020.

HF114 would modify court deadlines imposed on judicial proceedings in order to allow district and appellate courts to operate safely during the pandemic.

But there was confusion on when those deadlines would expire, explained Rep. Kelly Moller (DFL-Shoreview), the bill sponsor. The bill would extend the duration of those deadlines to April 15, 2021.

The bill now goes to the Senate, where Sen. Mark Johnson (R-East Grand Forks) is the sponsor.
