Special elections to fill the District 47A and District 64A House seats are scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026, per writs of special election issued Monday by Gov. Tim Walz.

Rep. Amanda Hemmingsen-Jaeger (DFL-Woodbury) and Rep. Kaohly Vang Her (DFL-St. Paul) resigned their seats Nov. 17. Two weeks ago, Hemmingsen-Jaeger won a special election for an open Senate seat and Her was elected St. Paul mayor.

If the DFL retains both seats, the House will remain tied at 67-all when the Legislature reconvenes Feb. 17, 2026.

Affidavits of candidacy and nominating petitions for the seats must be filed with the Office of the Secretary of State or the respective county auditor by Nov. 25.

If necessary, primary elections would be Dec. 16.
