DAUDT SLAMS DISTRICT COURT RULING STRIKING DOWN BIPARTISAN PRO-LIFE LAWS
ST. PAUL — House Minority Leader Kurt Daudt, R-Crown, issued the following statement regarding today's district court decision striking down several longstanding and bipartisan pro-life laws.
"Attorney General Ellison has a Constitutional duty to defend our state laws and must immediately appeal this decision. The effort by pro-abortion activists and their liberal donors will put lives at risk by allowing non-physicians to perform abortions and second or third trimester abortions to be performed in non-medical settings.
"Republicans will continue to defend common-sense pro-life laws that protect the health and safety of mothers, and work to overturn this reckless decision that puts mothers' lives at risk.”
The court decision struck down several provisions aimed at protecting the health and safety of mothers, including:
- A law requiring abortions to be performed by physicians.
- A law requiring second and third-term abortion to be performed in hospital settings.
- A law imposing felonies for performing abortions outside of rules established by the Department of Health.
- A law requiring parental notification for minors obtaining an abortion
