RELEASE: REP. FRANSON CONGRATULATES LOCAL FARM FAMILIES OF THE YEAR, CENTURY FARMS, AND SESQUICENTENNIAL FARMS

ST. PAUL, MN -- Rep. Mary Franson (R-Alexandria), issued the following statement congratulating area 2017 Farm Families of the Year, Century Farms, and Sesquicentennial Farms.

“Agriculture is one of Minnesota’s most important industries and economic drivers,” said Franson. “I would like to send my appreciation to these family farms for their historic commitment to our community.”

The Farm Family Recognition Program is coordinated by the University of Minnesota Extension; the College of Food, Agriculture, and Natural Resources Sciences; and the College of Veterinary Medicine, and recognizes families from Minnesota's 87 counties who have made significant contributions to Minnesota agriculture and their communities. Farm Family recognition day will take place on Thursday, August 3rd at Farmfest.

2017 award winners from District 8B are:

  • Douglas County: Dave and Amy Staples Family

The honoring of Century Farms is coordinated by the Minnesota State Fair and the Minnesota Farm Bureau; to qualify, the farm must have had continuous family ownership for at least 100 years and be on 50 acres of land or more.

2017 award winners from District 8B are:

  • Douglas County: Hintzen Farm
  • Otter Tail: Clayton Hills Farm and Sundby Farms

The honoring of Sesquicentennial Farms is coordinated by the Minnesota Farm Bureau.

2017 award winners from District 8B are:

  • Douglas County: Ray, Howard, Dwayne and Anita Hanson
