THEIS RESPONDS TO HOUSING OMNIBUS PASSAGE

ST. PAUL — After the passage of the Housing Omnibus bill, GOP Housing Lead Rep. Tama Theis, R-St. Cloud, issued the following statement:

"With an eviction moratorium off-ramp set to become law, we're removing one of the final excuses for the governor to hang on to his emergency powers," Theis said. "We need to end the peacetime emergency and restore the Legislature as a co-equal branch of government."

Theis also highlighted that the bill lacked meaningful reforms to address housing costs. According to a recent study, Minnesota is among the most expensive states in the region for housing, driven by costly regulations on home construction, land use, and more.

"While this bill is better now than when it left the House, it still does nothing to address the crisis in our housing market and burdensome regulations that are driving up housing costs," Theis added. "We need to get serious about addressing our expensive housing regulations that are putting the dream of homeownership out of reach for for far too many Minnesota families."
