Legislative Update from Rep. Jeff Backer

Friday, March 10, 2023

Dear Neighbors,

Rep. Tom Murphy, Senator Jordan Rasmussen, and myself are hosting a town hall on March 19th in Dalton to discuss efforts in St. Paul to legalize cannabis. This is a great opportunity for you to come out and share your thoughts, questions, and concerns on this topic. We will be joined by Otter Tail County Sheriff, Barry Fitzgibbons, and public health director Jody Lien.

The event is set to begin at 1:00 PM at the Dalton Community Center.

Tax Relief

The state has a $17.5 billion budget surplus. This means that your state government has dramatically over-collected from taxpayers.

This surplus belongs to you!

Permanent and immediate tax relief is needed NOW. Click here or the photo below to watch a brief video I recorded on this topic.

Educating the Next Generation

Minnesota schools should focus on the basics like reading, writing, and math. Our plan would take a science-based approach to reading instruction and make sure that every student in Minnesota has a chance to receive a world-class education.
