Neighbors,

Like many of you, I am absolutely heartbroken over the four-alarm fire on Central Avenue last night. Our neighbors will need our help as they rebuild their businesses, look for new homes, and find a new union hall. After being on the scene talking to residents, business owners, and our incredible firefighters and first responders, I'm still blown away by everyone's strength and empathy for their neighbors even as this fire was still burning. Support for these folks has already been pouring in. I'll keep everyone informed on how to safely get involved to help this block rebuild.

The COVID-19 virus news changes hourly and it continues to be a major interruption to our daily lives. In this update, I’ve included some resources you can use or pass along to someone.

Contact me anytime if you need additional information. I appreciate your comments and questions. Please stay home as much as possible as we continue to flatten the curve. It’s up to us to work together to contain this virus.

LATEST NEWS:

Governor Walz had made a series of executive orders to both slow the spread of COVID-19 and bring economic relief to families impacted by this pandemic. Today he issued a halt to evictions during the COVID-19 Peacetime Emergency. This means that landlords and financial institutions cannot start eviction proceedings during this emergency. Renters who can pay rent should continue to do so.

Governor Walz also announced that small businesses impacted by COVID-19 can apply for small business disaster loans from the state of Minnesota in addition to loans offered by the federal government. Minnesota loans should be available later this week. Federal loan information can be obtained here.

USEFUL RESOURCES:

If you are an impacted employer or employee, go to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) for resources that can help.

For education-related news, check the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) website.

As always, the Minnesota Department of Health is a trusted source for up to date information.

For information on the special enrollment period for MNsure, click here.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

Many of our friends and family members are alone or are isolated. Make sure to take a moment to check in with an email, text or call. We can all ramp up the kindness we show for others during this intense time.

Drop-off sites for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

First responders are running low on critical Personal Protection Equipment (PPE). Hennepin County is asking for donations to help. Go to the Hennepin County COVID-19 site and scroll down for information on what’s needed, drop-off sites and hours.

You can help others

Many of you have asked what you can do to help others in our community. MPR has compiled a useful list of groups who are accepting financial donations to help those most in need.
