Minnesota House Saint Paul Delegation Condemns Mosque Attacks

Wednesday, May 17, 2023

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Wednesday, May 17, 2023, The Tawhid Islamic Center in Saint Paul became the sixth mosque in the Twin Cities area to be vandalized and sustain arson attacks in the past month. Hate crimes and violent attacks on sacred places of worship and refuge have been a growing crisis.

The Minnesota Saint Paul Delegation issued the following statement:

“The Minnesota House Saint Paul Delegation condemns these growing acts of domestic terrorism. Hate crimes against our Muslim communities are unacceptable. Hate-motivated attacks can create a climate of fear and intimidation, and they can make it difficult for Muslim communities to feel safe and welcome in their community. All Minnesotans deserve the right to practice religion freely and without fear. Islamophobia is a serious problem. It can lead to more violence, discrimination, and social exclusion. It can also make it difficult for Muslims to live their lives authentically and to participate fully in society. By taking a stand against Islamophobia, we can help to create a more inclusive and tolerant society for all. We will not allow criminals to perpetuate hate, violence, or wreak havoc in our communities. As the Saint Paul Delegation, we are committed to uplifting and protecting the freedom of religion for all of our constituents.”

The Minnesota Saint Paul Delegation is comprised of Chair Rep. Dave Pinto (64B), Vice Chair Rep. María Isa Pérez-Vega (65B), Rep. Samakab Hussein (65A), Rep. Athena Hollins (66B), Rep. Leigh Finke (66A), Rep. Liz Lee (67A), Rep. Jay Xiong (67B), and Rep. Kaohly Vang Her (64A).
