Release: Representatives Pérez-Vega and Hussein Meet with Ramsey County to Discuss Levy Increase & Election Security

Tuesday, October 6, 2026

St. Paul, MN – On Friday, October 2, members of the Minnesota House District 65 delegation met with Ramsey County Manager Ling Becker, Commissioners of the Ramsey County Board, and their government relations team to hear about Ramsey County’s 2027 Supplemental Budget and proposed levy increase. The group discussed anticipated levy increases and state-county partnerships to preserve critical services threatened by President Trump’s HR 1. Ramsey County has proposed a 2027 property tax levy increase of 8.25% totaling $464 million, attached to a $965.7 million supplemental budget. State Representatives Hussein (DFL-St. Paul) and Pérez-Vega (DFL-St. Paul) released the following statement:

“Now more than ever, our constituents in Ramsey County are counting on their elected officials to work on and deliver solutions to fill service gaps caused by Trump’s MAGA cuts.

“With gas prices soaring to more than $4 a gallon, a pound of hamburger at nearly $8, and high energy bills, costs are adding up and straining family bank accounts. Rent and mortgage rates are strapping families' budgets. And on top of that, we have thousands of our neighbors, many of whom have disabilities or are children, who have lost their health care coverage and can no longer access food aid. We should protect residents from the worst effects of the federal cuts.

“As we look to 2027, our priority as state legislators is delivering tangible results with the county for working and middle-class families, lowering costs so everyone has the opportunity to live better lives.”

The group also received an overview of Ramsey County’s elections operations and preparedness for the Minnesota Department of Justice’s anticipated observation of voters across the county. The County is working closely with the Minnesota Secretary of State’s Office to ensure secure and fair elections.

“We commend the county for its work to ensure the safety, security, and integrity of our elections administration amid attempts at the federal level to undermine them,” the group stated.

“Minnesota elections are safe and secure. Everyone deserves the opportunity to participate in our shared democracy.”
