Dear Neighbors,

In the aftermath of a summer that profoundly impacted all Minnesotans, including last week’s tragic events that claimed the lives of two children and injured 21 victims through the horrific acts of gun violence, our District 65B neighbors and the West Side community is convening to create a supportive environment and provide resources to uplift students, teachers, school staff, and administrators who embody the importance of caring for one another and building resilience through hope and encouragement during challenging times.

This event, Together In Care, will be a collaborative resource gathering in partnership with the West Side Community Organization, Neighborhood House, Healing House, Minnesota Latino Museum, and St. Paul Park and Recreation, accompanied by treats provided by local businesses, including El Burrito Mercado, and complimentary pizza provided by WSCO and Neighborhood House, along with resources from NAMI and MOM’S DEMAND ACTION.

We will provide details on how Minnesotans can donate blood to the American Red Cross, while encouraging attendees to utilize this opportunity to unify in hope and solidarity, striving for a peaceful school year for the entire community.

The event will feature arts and crafts activities for children and families, led by St. Paul artist Noval Noir, learn about the Keepers of the Island Exhibit with MN Latino Museum Director Aaron Johnson Ortiz, Aztec Drumming and Danzantes, along with music by DJ LOW.

Upcoming Town Hall

My District 65 colleagues and I are hosting an upcoming town hall centered on the topic of public safety. In a time when many of our constituents have been reaching out to express concern and fear, it's of utmost importance to us to ensure you feel heard, supported, and, most importantly, see us addressing issues impacting our community with solutions with a community-oriented approach.

Please join us if you can. Details below.

We continue to hold space for the victims, their families, and everyone whose lives were shattered by these tragic events and keep them close to our hearts. Even as we grieve, we must move forward with a commitment to taking action. Our children, families, and communities deserve to be free from violence, and we will continue to listen, learn, and work together to keep our communities safe.

It is an honor to represent our community at the Capitol. Please continue to reach out to my office if you have any questions or if I can help you in any way.
