Interim Update
It’s been a busy summer here in Minnesota. From attending legislative conferences with our neighbors to the north, to working in our community and helping with local events, it has been both fun and fulfilling. I’d like to share some of the highlights with you, along with an exciting internship opportunity for college students in our district.
Touring the Potash Mine in SaskatoonWhile attending the Midwestern Legislative Conference in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, I toured a regional potash mine. It was a firsthand look at large-scale agricultural infrastructure and cross-border innovation. Seeing mining operations in action provided fresh insights into how resource development supports rural economies. ![]()
Court Ruling on Omnibus LegislationOn Monday, a Ramsey County District Court struck down the binary trigger provision from a 1,400-page omnibus bill, citing Minnesota’s constitutional single-subject requirement. While the decision applies only to that provision, the judge’s broader comments highlight a troubling trend of cramming unrelated policies into massive bills—a shortcut that undermines transparency and public input. I’ve consistently called for clear, single-topic bills that allow open debate and genuine accountability.
Serving at the Norwood Young America Free Produce MarketThis week, I joined volunteers at the Norwood Young America weekly food distribution. In 2024, the program provided nearly 30,000 meals to over 330 families. Beyond food, it helps families stretch their budgets, eat healthier, and feel more connected to the community. Powered by dedicated volunteers and partners like Second Harvest Heartland, Carver County, and Central Public Schools, the market will continue with expanded efforts to provide quality produce and support families in our community. ![]()
