Legislative Update Last week moved quickly as things continue to get busier and busier at the Capitol. I want to share some of the meetings form the past week and I will be sure to follow up with more information on the events of this week as we approach the legislative deadline on Friday. Last week was full of productive meetings with groups working on a wide range of issues across our state. Powering Minnesota - Getting More for Less I met with advocates supporting a repeal of Minnesota’s nuclear moratorium. This policy is based on outdated assumptions about nuclear energy and updating it would bring Minnesota in line with the rest of the country. As we look at long-term energy needs, it is important that we remain open to reliable and affordable options that can meet demand without driving up costs for families and businesses. I believe strongly in our American engineers and our nation's ability to deliver on these projects in a safe and effective manner. I understand there may be concerns so I encourage you to reach out and be part of the conversation. It's my aim that decisions affecting our district are made with the input of everybody that calls it home.  Ensuring Reliable and Affordable Energy for Rural Minnesota I had the opportunity to meet with Minnesota’s electric cooperatives to discuss the challenges they are facing and how we can ensure dependable and affordable energy delivery, especially in rural areas where reliability is essential.  Representatives from Benco, McLeod Cooperative Power Association, & Renville-Sibley Cooperative The Economic Development Association of Minnesota (EDAM) They shared their legislative priorities and ideas for getting Minnesota’s economic outlook back on track (something we desperately need). We discussed ways to support job growth, reduce unnecessary barriers for businesses, and create an environment where employers can succeed and expand. This is crucial of we want to get back to a thriving Minnesota. Business is the backbone.  Zach Synstegaard from Lester Prairie with the Economic Development Association of Minnesota Soil. Water. Conservation. I also had a great conversation with the Minnesota Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (MASWCD) about the important work being done to protect our natural resources while also supporting agriculture and local communities. Their work is a good example of how we can balance conservation efforts with the needs of rural Minnesota.  McLeod Soil & Water Conservation District, Mark Schnobrich & Charles Matthews Thank You!
