St. Paul, MN—House Republican Floor Leader Harry Niska, R-Ramsey, issued the following statement reacting to today’s ruling from the Minnesota Supreme Court:
“This morning, at the urging of Governor Walz, Attorney General Ellison, and Minnesota Democrats, the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled that it is illegal ‘public accommodation’ discrimination to maintain a women’s or girls’ sports division that excludes males based on sex. Whether intentional or not, this decision has sweeping implications that could effectively eliminate girls’ sports in Minnesota unless we provide statutory clarification.
"House Republicans saw this coming and tried to take action earlier this year to prevent exactly this outcome. Unfortunately, House Democrats blocked those efforts at every turn. It is now incumbent on Democrats to set aside partisan politics and join us in protecting the future of girls’ sports.”
