Dear Neighbors, We’ve had a significant update since my email last Thursday. On Friday, the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled that the attempted power grab by House Republicans these last two weeks was unconstitutional, invalidating the Speaker election, floor sessions, and committee hearings they’ve held since the 14th. The ruling provides clarity to something my DFL colleagues and I have known since November: Minnesotans want us to work together. Republicans tried to go it alone. They tried to take power the voters didn’t give them, and instead of providing legitimacy to their actions, House Democrats have been conducting our work in our communities, for our communities. Rep. Liish Kozlowski and I submitted an op-ed to the Duluth News Tribune on this topic. Until House Republicans agree to seat State Representative Brad Tabke and work with us on a plan to govern the Minnesota House together, I’ll continue to do everything I can to properly represent you while pushing for that compromise. Part of representing our community means having conversations, meeting with leaders and organizations, and preparing legislation. I’m doing all of those things right now, just not at an office in St. Paul. |
