Duluth, MN - The Minnesota Public Facilities Authority recently awarded the City of Duluth funding through the Lead Service Line Replacement Program, with over $22 million in funding replacing a total of 704 lead service lines.
The Legislative Delegation from Duluth, made up of Sen. Jen McEwen (DFL-8), Rep. Pete Johnson (DFL-8A), and Rep. Liish Kozlowski (DFL-8B), released the following statement on the approved financing:
“The Lead Service Line Replacement Program is government at its best, with the local, state, and federal levels coming together to get lead out of our drinking water and building a healthier Duluth. No amount of lead in our drinking water is safe, and this funding is just the latest step in helping the state reach its goal of replacing all lead service lines by 2033.
“Water is life, and our delegation remains committed to building on this success and prioritizing clean, healthy water.”
The Lead Service Line Replacement Program has been funded through federal capitalization grants from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to MPFA’s Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, as well as appropriations from the Minnesota Legislature to MPFA.
This year’s Capital Investment Legislation, in addition to funding several local infrastructure projects in the City of Duluth and surrounding region, funded over $409 million in a variety of water projects at the MPFA.
