Interim Update

1

Dear friends and neighbors,

The smell of fresh crayons, the hum of morning buses, and the sound of sneakers squeaking on gym floors—these are the little signs that a new school year has begun here in Minnesota. As a mom, there’s nothing quite like watching our kids step into the excitement and challenges of learning, each with their own mix of curiosity and courage.

To all the students: embrace every lesson, every challenge, and every opportunity to grow. To the parents: I see you juggling schedules, sports practices, and the occasional forgotten lunchbox—you deserve a round of applause. And to our teachers and school staff: thank you for your patient hearts, steady hands, and dedication to guiding our kids every single day. Your work truly matters.

A gentle reminder to everyone behind the wheel: the roads are busier, not just with school buses but also with farm equipment and the usual Minnesota hustle. Please slow down, give extra space, and drive like someone you love is on the road ahead—because chances are, they are.

From my family to yours, I wish every student a year filled with curiosity, courage, and joy. May our schools be safe, our communities supportive, and our children inspired to reach their fullest potential. Here’s to a school year full of learning, laughter, and maybe even a few unexpected moments that become cherished memories.

An Update From the Capitol

The Governor has announced a special session, though he made this decision without first working alongside legislative leaders. I believe Minnesotans deserve a process that is collaborative and respectful—but even so, I’ll be there, ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work for you.

As a parent, as well as your representative, my heart is especially focused on school safety. Families, students, and teachers deserve more than promises—they deserve action. That means providing the security funding our schools were denied in 2023 and ensuring children have access to the mental health resources they need. These are real, practical steps that can make a difference right now.

What I don’t support are empty gestures or one-size-fits-all policies that haven’t delivered results in other states. Minnesota families deserve better.

I’ll continue to stand up for commonsense solutions that keep kids safe, ease the worries of parents, and support teachers in the work they do every single day.

Coming Together to Serve

Last week, I had the privilege of connecting with incredible partners who are making a difference every day. I met with Ritu Raju, President of South Central College, visited the Salvation Army, and spent time with the Minnesota Council on Latino Affairs. I also toured Rasmussen University alongside Congressman Brad Finstad. These visits were a powerful reminder of how coming together—supporting one another, sharing our talents, and working for the common good—helps our communities grow stronger and more resilient. I am deeply grateful for these partnerships and look forward to continuing our work together during the legislative session.

Step Inside the Capitol – An Adventure for High School Juniors!

1

Hey Juniors — want to swap out your textbooks for a week at the Minnesota State Capitol? The High School Page Program is your ticket to see state government in action — up close and personal! You’ll get to spend a whole week at our beautiful Capitol, learning how laws are made, meeting leaders, and even serving right on the House Floor. Pretty cool, right?

Here’s what’s in store:

  • Team up with your State Representative (yes — that means me!)
  • Sit in on committee hearings where the real debates happen
  • Explore the historic Capitol like an insider, not just a visitor
  • Join a 50-year Minnesota tradition that’s inspired thousands of students

This isn’t just a “field trip.” It’s hands-on, once-in-a-lifetime experience you’ll never forget. Honestly, if I could go back in time, I’d sign up myself!

I’d be thrilled to see students from our district take part and bring your energy, curiosity, and perspective to the Capitol. Who knows — maybe it’ll even spark a future career in public service (or at least give you the best “what I did this year” story).

Don’t wait — check it out and apply [here].

Welcoming the First Weekend of Fall

As we head into the first weekend of fall, I hope you’re able to take in the beauty of the season—the cozy evenings, the cooler air, and the simple joy of gathering with loved ones. If you see me out and about at community events, please don’t be shy—I’d love the chance to visit with you.

And as always, I’m here to listen. If you have concerns, ideas, or just want to share what’s on your heart, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Your voices guide the work I do every day on your behalf.

Wishing you a peaceful and joy-filled start to autumn!

Sincerely,

Representative Erica Schwartz
