Statement from Representative Danny Nadeau Regarding Taxpayer Dollars Spent on Private Legal Counsel for Congressional Hearing
ROGERS, MN — Following reports that $430,000 was spent on outside lawyers to assist with preparation for a short congressional hearing, Representative Danny Nadeau released the following statement:
"Spending like this is outrageous. At a time when we're working to rein in costs, eliminate waste, and restore trust in government, using nearly half a million taxpayer dollars for image consulting is indefensible.
While way too much, it’s not just about the price tag. It’s about priorities. Minnesotans expect their hard-earned tax dollars to go toward classrooms, public safety, roads, and healthcare—not private legal preparation. I don’t know who made this decision, but it’s tone-deaf and completely out of touch with the people who fund our government.
We owe it to Minnesotans to treat their money with care and respect. Wasting public funds for political optics violates that trust, and it’s exactly the kind of behavior that fuels cynicism and frustration with government. Minnesotans deserve better.”
