Statement from Rep. Danny Nadeau on Sanford Health merger with North Memorial
"Today’s news about the planned Sanford Health and North Memorial Health merger is an important step toward the future of healthcare delivery in Minnesota. I’m grateful for the relationship these two organizations have built and for the work being done to bring together their strengths, expertise and resources.
This partnership strengthens two strong health care organizations at an important time for Minnesota. Sanford’s commitment to invest roughly $500 million in Maple Grove Hospital, along with another $100 million at North Memorial’s Robbinsdale campus, represents a significant investment in Minnesota’s health care infrastructure and will add important capacity to a growing metro area. As demand for health care continues to grow, that additional capacity can help ensure patients have timely access to the care they need.
We have lots more work to do, but the future of our healthcare delivery system will depend on the intersectionality of hospitals, clinics, specialists, insurers, technology, community partners, and how effectively we bring those pieces together. Our goal should be a system that is more accessible, more coordinated, more innovative, more efficient and ultimately delivers better outcomes for patients.
Getting there will require collaboration, new ideas and a willingness to challenge the way things have always been done. Partnerships like this have the potential to help Minnesota adapt to the changing health care needs of the next generation.
As a member of the House Health Committee, I’ll be paying close attention as this merger moves forward. I’m encouraged by the investment and hopeful about what this partnership can mean for the future of health care in Minnesota.
